What is a digital marketplace?

A digital marketplace is an online platform that allows buyers and sellers to trade goods and services. It is typically operated by a company or organization that facilitates the transaction process, often for a fee. Digital marketplaces can take many forms, but the most common are e-commerce marketplaces, where buyers and sellers can purchase and sell physical goods, and service marketplaces, where buyers can purchase services such as home cleaning, tutoring, or graphic design. These platforms can range from small, niche marketplaces, to large, global marketplaces like Amazon, Alibaba and Uber. The benefit of a digital marketplace is that it allows for a large number of buyers and sellers to connect and transact in one place, and it allows for more efficient price discovery and matching of buyers and sellers.
